When I started work [in 1972], there were several people ... who were raised up with me - like about four of them who had come from the same neighborhood. So we played in the neighborhoods, then we ended up working together....

Viola Floyd

Everybody loved Sr. Jane [Breidenbach]. She was called - you probably heard she was the Pied Piper of the neighborhood....

Albert Richardson

Because the three or four hours that you have kids off the street, [...] that's the percentage of kids that are safe. You know, that's the way we have to look at it.

Sr. Patricia Dunne

But at the time, again, it just felt like that's where I needed to be. And that this was really where the people really need us. And we needed to be there. And the Sisters that were there - I'll be telling you about some of them.

Maureen and Deanna Hallagan

Maureen would come from Shriners and my mom would stay, and they built up a group for teen moms, like a support group.

Gwen Horton

I learned some valuable lessons from working at Rockwell [Gardens Housing Project]. Times were hard and sometimes it wasn't safe to go in. But as I said, the families and the guys were kind of our protectors....

Bessie Houston

So Sister [Mary William] called me down and she says, "Come in here and pray. Bessie, come down here." And I came down, and she opened [the door], and she said, "This is Dr. King." ... My mouth dropped. She said, "Bessie, close your mouth." She says, "This is Dr. Martin Luther King. This is one of my coordinators. Her name is..." And then she introduced [me].

Ora Lomack

Willie Morris Jr.

Fred Williams - I mentioned him - he, as the director of the teen and young adult program, he started an outdoor basketball tournament, which ran for years. He did an excellent job. When he left in [19]81, I picked it up, because it was so successful, that I said I didn't want that to fall through the cracks. And so, it was the Marillac basketball - I changed it to the Marillac Classic. And you can hear, I mean - Isiah Thomas played here, Mark Aguirre.

Ersilee Wesley

The youth in the community - used to have a lot of boys used to come to play in the gym. You know, in the old building we had a gym. And so, at that time, it wasn't a lot of girls coming to the program, you know, not as many as we wanted. So I would go out, you know, and find the young ladies and tell them about the program, and "Come on in," you know.
